London, Cardiff, Bristol, Chester - and Colwyn Bay - were the among the many
venues visited by members of Prestatyn Running Club at the weekend
The busy programme, however, was one of the reasons that the club's senior men unfortunately failed to field a full team of six for the opening fixture of the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross Country League in Eirias Park. At the same event, however, the club had no fewer than nine men over 65 competing including the newly qualified Arwel Jones and Reg Jonas, and eight women.
It was a particularly busy weekend for Ben Thomas, Nem James and Nicki Triggs, who joined the 6,000-strong field for the 20th anniversary of the first ever Parkrun in Bushy Park, London, on Saturday and then were among the 25,000 in Sunday's Cardiff half-marathon. Their placings on Saturday were:- 1,262 Nem James 32.04, 1,288 Ben Thomas 32.25, 1,289 Nicki Triggs 32.26.

There was an unfortunate fixture clash as the popular Chester Marathon took place the same day. Two Prestatyn members lined up and both had good runs, finishing not far outside their pbs. George Williams was 525th overall in 3-13.53 and Steve Stocker 661st in 3-20.05.
Yet another event on Sunday was the Bangor 10k, in which Gee Outten, making a rare competitive appearance, was first senior lady in 45.38 and Darren Thompson won the M55 class in 46.15.
At Colwyn Bay two of the five members in the main men's race had also recently joined or rejoined, while Leah Hughes, who last ran cross-country over 10 years ago and rejoined the club on Saturday morning, was the first finisher in the women's race. The outstanding performer was Gordon Jones, who took up where he left off last year in winning the M65 class.
