The local running programme was quite literally put on ice at the weekend when weather conditions led to the cancellation not only of the region’s Parkruns but also the fourth fixture of the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross-Country League in Baschurch, Shrewsbury,
Some members of Prestatyn Running Club were glad of the rest as it gave them a little more time to overcome niggling injuries, but it means that the final race in Oswestry on February 8 takes on greater significance for individuals and teams in with a chance of medals.
Trophy-hunting will also be on the minds of athletes this Saturday ((18th)) as the annual Arthur Bebbington Twin Piers race from Llandudno to Colwyn Bay incorporates the North Wales championship.
Eleven members of the Prestatyn will be in the line-up, including a couple who will be making their competitive debuts for the club.
Meanwhile, the club is extremely active at present, with membership continuing to grow and training sessions being divided into at least three groups to cater for all standards of runners. To ensure their safety it is hoped to recruit more run leaders.
In addition, a number of social events are planned, including a social run in Rhewl, near Ruthin, on February 2, a headtorch run in the Gwaenysgor area, and on February 28 a ceilidh with the band Mooncoin at Rhyl Rugby Club, for which tickets are now available at £10 each.
With the club in the ascendancy, new club kit will soon be launched.
