Martin Gill, Debbie Weedman & Andy Clarke took on the Porth Eirias 10k race - Gareth's press report 27th October 2024

North Wales, South Wales, summits and sea – the weekend programme had the lot for members of Prestatyn Running Club.

Taking on the toughest challenge of the lot was George Williams, who joined the 2,000-strong field in the annual Marathon Eryri (Snowdonia).

In contrast with recent years, the autumn weather was perfect and as a result some exceptional times were recorded. George was among those who had a fine run, clocking 3-52.55 in 412th place. It came just three weeks after he did 3-13 in the Chester Marathon.

Two others who took to the hills were Andy Scott and Ann Claire Jones. On Saturday evening Andy entered his first ever nighttime race, the “Piece of String” event around time on Moel Famau in which entrants did not know how far they would be running – anything between 6k and 10k. The race began with a steep ascent of Moel Fenlli, and Andy was left unsure of the distance he covered or his final position.

Moel Famau was also the venue for Sunday’s Clwydian Hills race, a tough 9.3-miler involving 3,248 feet of ascents. Ann-Claire Jones revelled in the tough going, clocking 2h 4m.

The club’s ultra specialist Cathy Wood took on a different challenge – again in spectacular surroundings. She travelled to South Wales for the Gower Trail race, a 23-mile race on the scenic coastal path from Rhossili to Mumbles, and finished 83rd out of 114 starters in a highly creditable 7-19.16.

Closer to home, four other members also ran a coastal route in the Porth Eirias Halloween 10k in Colwyn Bay. Steve Stocker led the quartet home in 4th place overall and first over 50 in 39.26. He was followed by Andy Clark (39th in 48.52), Martin Gill (54th and 2nd M60 in 51.55) and Debbie Weedman (109th in 60.47).

On Saturday members were in action in eight different Parkruns, with Tom Carter the top performer while finishing third in the Heaton event in Manchester with a time of 17.35.

 Other results were:-
